This past fall was the first time I became what I thought I never wanted to be….a soccer mom. And do you know what? I LOVED it! Check out my little expert goalie below! So serious!
Adam has played soccer for most of his life, whereas I was a runner….a solo athlete. I participated on a “team,” but the performance was all based on my own effort. The closest I got to team sports were relay races in track and field where we ran our part and passed the baton. When another mom mentioned a local soccer league that was accepting players, we decided to sign Lily up. The main coach had to cancel right before the season started, and Adam volunteered as one of the team coaches to keep the team in place.
I never thought I would be interested in watching a bunch of little kids play soccer. It sounds horrible, I know, but I didn’t participate in team sports as a child. After the first game, I was hooting and hollering for “run, Lily, RUN!! Kick that ball!” It was such a fun experience to see all of the kids evolve and improve through the season. We are definitely going to be participating in the spring season, and are waiting with anticipation for the first practice and the first game, hoping we can get all the same players together for the next season. I know I’ll be cheering from the sidelines!
The photo below shows the team and the three awesome coaches (my bearded Adam on the left!). Lily’s the only one in the first row not holding her trophy…she was just excited to be part of the team (and to be sitting next to her best friend)!
