This week I am working across the ocean from my family, and boy do I miss them! I can’t deny that I am counting the days until I return but at the same time, I am hoping for a productive week here with my colleagues in Germany.
The flight over from Atlanta was uneventful though sleep eluded me despite the rather comfortable business class seating. The flight meal was very good!
Somehow my coworker and I managed to make it through the airport, onto the correct train and to our hotel rooms without too much hassle. Below is one of the several theaters we passed, which we later learned was the opera house of Duisburg.
We spent the day in a fog in meetings, but after work we strolled through the city exploring the sites and sounds of Duisburg, Germany. The Duisburg city hall building below was so ornate!
One thing that I can’t seem to get over is the smell. Most cars are diesel and the exhaust can be rather potent. Cigarette smoking is also much more prevalent and I realize now how spoiled I am by the non-smoking restaurants and areas in the US! It is nice to be able to walk from point to point and rely on public transportation.
