I have seen homemade recipes for taco seasoning before, but it wasn't until I was making taco chili that called for a packet of taco seasoning and I realized - I'm all out!  I found a basic recipe on allrecipes.com and tweaked it to our tastes (less salt, more cumin).

2 tablespoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon sea salt
2 teaspoons black pepper

Mix all ingredients well in an air tight container and use as needed.

So when a recipe calls for one packet of seasoning...how much of this do you put in?

I don't know why I've never done this too. It makes so much sense since everything is on hand. YUM!

I LOVE homemade taco seasoning! It tastes so much better than the store-bought kind.
