Until a couple of months ago, I had never heard of sight words. Our methodology has always been to teach our daughter to sound out a word, rather than memorize it by sight. I still fully believe that learning phonics is the best method for teaching a child to read. Yet when I got the list of suggested sight words, I was eager to make flash cards for Lily to learn them so she could be on par if not ahead of her peers. I stored my mini flash cards in a mini jewelry box. I’m so proud of her when I see her sounding out a word!
