Easy Kids Spinach Pizza #Recipe

Friday, April 29, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

I saw this recipe in some parenting magazine and decided to try it with Lily.  Go figure that despite being a constant helper in the kitchen, she lost interest after the sauce part!  I will have to try this out some other time with her.

We used the following:
Can of pizza dough - I think it was Pillsbury
pizza sauce
spinach leaves
black olives
green onions
turkey pepperoni slices
shredded pizza cheese

Roll the dough out and spread your sauce.

Cover with some shredded pizza cheese or cheese of your choice.

Add your favorite veggies.  I forgot to add the spinach leaves before taking this picture ;)

Roll everything up - this was a little tricky - better let the grown-up handle it.

Cut it up and bake at 325 for about 20 minutes or until the dough is done.

CLOSED Fresh Baby Perfect Portions Plate, Bowl & Divider Dish Giveaway

Friday, April 29, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

Have you heard of Fresh Baby products?  I was introduced to them last year when I had the opportunity to review their great So Easy Toddler Food cookbook.  Lily still likes to refer to her cookbook and pick out recipes.  This year, Fresh Baby has launched three new great products and we had the opportunity to review them all.

The Kids Portion Plate provides you a little extra support in making your child's mealtime healthy. The plate contains 3 divided sections that are appropriately sized for Fruits & Vegetables, Proteins and Grains.

The easy-to-read, colorful theme emphasizes a healthy lifestyle including being active and eating a rainbow of colors.  The plate is BPA-free and dishwasher safe (but don't stick it in the microwave!).  This plate is sold individually or as a set with the great So Easy Toddler Food book.

The “Homemade With Love” Baby Bowl and Divided Dish are great for showing off your dedication to making fresh food while on the go.  The double body construction separates for easy cleaning, keeps food warm or cool longer and the outside shell never gets too hot.  It comes with a lid, too.

MY THOUGHTS
We were more than happy to review the new offerings from Fresh Baby!  The first night the package arrived, Lily was determined to try out the plate and "cook" me a meal from her kitchen.  She enjoyed seeing the types of food pictured on the plate and organized the special plastic food just right for my yummy dinner.
We have used the plate quite often.  Even though I am very good about eating a healthy, well balanced diet, sometimes it is good to have a reminder of exactly how I should portion out Lily's meal.  Below is a typical breakfast for her.  Watermelon, blueberries, buttered waffles, salami and a deviled egg.  Now I admit the deviled egg is not exactly typical - we were using up leftovers!

In addition to the plate, the travel containers are fabulous.  It's great to be able to bring our own healthy options whether to a play date, playground or a day of errands.  Some restaurants really have very few healthy options for kids outside of the standard Mac & Cheese or chicken nuggets.

BUY IT
You can purchase Fresh Baby products directly from their website.  Check out their Facebook site for a Fan Offer Tab for discounts and offers - right not there is a 25% OFF the So Easy Baby Food Kit!

WIN IT
One of my US readers will win the same great products we had the opportunity to review  (ARV $33). Lucky You!

MANDATORY ENTRY
1) Visit Fresh Baby and tell me another product you might like or tell me why you would like to win. Easy!

Save Money & Make Your Own Stakes #Gardening Tip

Sunday, April 24, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

Since spring is upon us, some of you may be trimming, pruning and planting...or already well into it!  A few weeks ago on a lark Lily and I planted a packet of dried 2 year old pea seeds in our hard Georgia clay.  Well, for some reason those suckers really took off.  Soon they were twining around nearby plants and grasses.  I needed plant stakes and fast.  Home Depot had some but really...was I going to spend that much on a piece of bamboo or plastic?  Adam suggested that I use some branches he had trimmed from his adventures in the garden.  They worked perfectly - and were free!  So save your tree branches for poles to stake your beans or tomatoes or peas or trailing flower vines.  Happy gardening!

PromotionCode.org Website Review

Sunday, April 24, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

Do you spend a lot of time shopping online, or do you prefer to hit the stores? Regardless of your preference, it is always good to comparison shop online and search for any discounts or coupon codes you might be able to find. I have to say I much prefer to comparison shop online and order online. To be honest, I’d rather spend more to have an item shopped than take the time driving around hoping to get exactly what I need in stores. Actually, if you’ve been a follower of my blog, you know I only shop in the mall once a year for my annual shopping spree to restock my wardrobe. You’d have to pull me there kicking and screaming otherwise!

As a result I shop online…and recently I was introduced to PromotionCode.org – a great website that lists a variety of codes. Since we are on a huge gardening kick given the glorious Atlanta weather, I was curious as to what types of Home Depot coupon codes were available on PromotionCode.com.  I found a total of 40 codes including a $5 off $50 code and a free shipping code for purchases over $249.

As for the website overall, I like that the codes are organized by “Staff Pick” and also “Success Rate” which specifically tells you the last time a code worked. You can add your own feedback as you use a code – simply click to “comment on this code” or “this code worked” or “this code failed.” Easy! In the market for new cell phone service? Check out their Verizon promo codes or other service carriers!

I also like how the site has a quick link to codes that offer Free Shipping, too. You can quickly add a code or add a store while you are on there as well. All in all, I can honestly say I will be hunting around on this website the next time I need to make a purchase online and need a promotion code!

Sunday, April 24, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

Through its annual New Author Contest, Cheerios® cereal will make this dream a reality for one aspiring children’s book author. One Grand Prize Winner will receive a $5,000 cash prize and a possible publishing deal with Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, in addition to having his or her book featured inside Cheerios cereal boxes nationwide.

Who Needs Yoga When You Can Weed?! #MyLife

Friday, April 22, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

So on this particular evening, Lily and I got home, cooked dinner, ate it and had time to spare.  Yay!  Instead of an art project or reading time, we hit the great outdoors.  Despite my last encounter with a painful caterpillar sting, I thought it wise to weed.  Without gloves.  Yes, I do have a master's degree, really I do.  But to keep your mind off my stupidity, here's my cute kiddo.  I mean just look at her.  Love!!

I weeded like a fiend and sent her down to get the empty cat litter bucket for my weeds.

Then Lily collected flowers.  Bored, she reached for some chalk and drew a picture.  "Mommy, this is you reaching out your hand to me and I put a vinca flower in your hair."  How many of you know what a vinca minor bloom looks like?  My Lily does :)  Have I mentioned that I love that kiddo!

During her artistic time I attacked this horrific area.  Here's the before.

And the bucket filled up quickly with my savage yanking of the evil weeds and overgrown plants.  Who needs yoga when you can weed?!

And the aftermath of my weeding.  I am debating what to plant here.  It is really shaded so maybe I'll stick to more hydrangeas or azaleas.

Adam came home and was left with the task of cleaning up the aftermath.  Have I mentioned how much I love him?

Seneca Farms New Oatmeal & Fruit Review

Tuesday, April 19, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

It’s not groundbreaking news that breakfast provides us and our kids with the nutrition and fuel our bodies need. And we all know that eating oatmeal and other whole grains are an essential part of a healthy diet and promote overall good health. But, busy mornings and finicky kids can make it hard to find the time to make something that is both nutritious and delicious.  Seneca comes to the rescue!

Did you know that*…
Nearly 60% of U.S. parents of children ages 3-17 admit that their child skips breakfast, with more than half of U.S. Moms wishing their child ate a more nutritious breakfast.

58% of U.S. Moms say they skip breakfast regularly. 46% of Moms who skip breakfast say they do so because they do not have enough time to prepare or eat it.

57% of single adults say the number one reason they skip breakfast is that they don’t have enough time to prepare it.

While 71% of U.S. adults agree that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, 67% of those admit to skipping breakfast.
*Results of 2011 Children’s Nutrition Survey, conducted by Harris Interactive for Seneca Farms

Seneca Farms Oatmeal & Fruit – launching on April 4 at Wal-Mart – is the perfect choice for anyone who has trouble finding time for breakfast in the morning. In less time than it takes to make a cup of coffee, heat the six-ounce microwaveable cup – no milk or water necessary – in the microwave for 45 seconds. Seneca's Oatmeal &

Fruit has no trans fats or cholesterol, and is a great source of Vitamin C. Two initial flavors are being introduced – Apple Cinnamon and Vanilla Peach. More flavors and retailers will be added in the coming months.

Seneca Farms Oatmeal & Fruit is not only a quick and healthy breakfast option, but it is a satisfying mid-afternoon snack and it even works as part of a healthy weight loss

MY THOUGHTS
Seneca Farms sent us some of their new fruit and oatmeal to review.  Since I leave for work at a very early hour, we appreciate quick and easy breakfast items - they are very handy to have around!  Quick to open and heat.  Now, keep in mind I have absolutely NO sweet tooth....so you know I am going to say that Seneca Oatmeal & Fruit is way too sweet for me.  I know I'm probably in the 1% that would think so...I mean, I think the plain store brand vanilla yogurt is too sweet!  Adam and I thought it would be wonderful to pour hot over vanilla ice cream as a dessert. Yes, we're the type of people that use oatmeal as dessert.  It's actually quite delicious that way!

Want to try your own?  Print your Seneca coupon to do so!
Disclosure: This post was written for Family Review Network & Seneca who provided the complimentary product for review in exchange for my honest review.  All opinions are my own!
