#WordlessWednesday - Creativity

Wednesday, March 30, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

We enjoy spending some time in the yard after work/school.  Lily collects various flowers and helps in the yard.  Recently she created her own "rings" using pine straw and camellia petals.  I love to see her use her imagination!

I Love My Family!

Monday, March 28, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

I love it when family gets together.  It doesn't happen often enough and we try to capture each visit with a photo...or 20!  I dug out my old tripod and got some fun family shots - here's one!  I'm making a mental note to try to take a "family" tripod picture once a month.

CLOSED weeDECOR $50 Decal #Giveaway

Monday, March 28, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

What is weeDECOR about?  Their mission - walls that make you smile. weeDECOR wants to help you create a more personal, playful space for your child starting with our signature line of decorative wall decals featuring your child’s name.  This mission was inspired by their love for color, unique home décor, and anything that makes kids happy.  Based in San Francisco, California, weeDECOR works tirelessly to get those smiles.  Read more or start browsing the baby room wall decals.

MY THOUGHTS
I'm not the best interior decorator around, so Lily's room and bathroom have been left relatively barren.  I was excited to get some lovely decals from weeDECOR to try out.  We received some tupils, birds and lady bugs.  Lily and I debated on placement and finally decided her bathroom would be perfect for the decals.  It was super easy to apply weeDECOR's decals.  They peeled easily and stuck to the wall like stickers.

WIN IT
One of my US readers will win a $50 gift certificate to weeDECOR. Lucky You!

MANDATORY ENTRY
1) Tell me why you would like to win or tell me what nursery wall decals you would purchase. Easy!

This giveaway is closed.  The winner was #172 Terra H.  Congratulations!

Please ensure your profile is public or leave me your email address in your comment. Please be honest in your entries as I do check entries and will delete any non-qualified comments! This giveaway will end at midnight on April 12th. I will use Random.org to choose the winner, email the winner and post the winner on my website. Giveaway is open to US addresses. Good luck to all!

CLOSED BabyBaby Organic Shampoo #Giveaway

Monday, March 28, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

BabyBaby skin care was born in 2002 out of the need for good, quality skin care for New Zealand children offering a complete package of products to suit common childhood skin conditions as well as day to day care for children's skin.

As a beauty therapist, product developer Jodee Reid was astounded when looking for skin care for her new born son twelve years ago, that aside from the mass produced, there was very little else on offer. With a strong passion for aromatherapy and sensible choices regarding skin preservation Jodee set about researching the need for a good quality skin care range of products for New Zealand children.

BabyBaby skin care has been developed in response to this research and offers a complete skin care range with professional advise. Mothers using BabyBaby have been so impressed with the product and protocols their main request were for product to meet their own skin care needs and hence 2B Skin Care resulted.

Jodee Reid is a mother of four children, beauty therapist, award winning business woman and BabyBaby company director. Jodee's passion for skin is evident in her two fantastic New Zealand made skin care ranges; BabyBaby and 2B skin care.

MY THOUGHTS
Jodee sent us a bottle of her BabyBaby Organic Shampoo to review and it was a hit. I liked how well it lathered and Lily and I both really enjoyed the scent. BabyBaby Organic Shampoo is free of artificial fragrance, colour and preservative. Harsh synthetics, wheat, gluten, corn and dairy ingredients. Any ingredients not from a complementary sustainable, green process or unnatural (toxic) seed/source.

You can purchase products directly from their website and all of their products carry a 100% money back guarantee.

Why I am Grateful for My #HandyHubby

Friday, March 25, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

Sometimes with the whirl of life's activities, we don't take enough time to truly appreciate what we have.  I have been watching some horrible stories on the news that have made me tear up on a daily basis.  This makes me realize how wonderful my own life is.

I know, I know, sorry for the cheese but I can't help it!  I am so grateful for all the good in my life.  Here is my moment of appreciation for my wonderful husband - I love you more than anything!

AND I love you for the little things you do that might not always get a thank you...so...THANK YOU for:

* Cleaning out the litter box every morning and every night.
* Your ability to make me smile with just one look.
* Negotiating a deal on just about any product or service.  Who can get the Home Depot sales guy to throw in a free battery with my new hedge trimmer?
* Your silly jokes and puns.  I moan and groan over their cheesy nature but they still make me smile.
* Taking my car for oil changes and other required maintenance.
* Listening to me vent about work, traffic, a broken finger nail and other life annoyances.
* Giving me back rubs on command.  Good ones, too!
* Carting the garbage and recycling bins up and down the driveway every week.
* Knowing all the kids names at daycare.  And telling me stories about them.
* Scrubbing cat vomit.  Ew.
* And probably 1000+ other things I forget to say thanks for!

Did I mention...I love you, Adam!  Now...I wonder how long it will be before he notices this post :)

CLOSED Infiniti Pro by Conair Spin Air Brush #Giveaway

Friday, March 25, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

Have you hear of the Infiniti Pro by Conair Spin Air Brush? Want to put a new spin on your hair styling routine? Smooth, frizz-free and voluminous hair is now easy to achieve with the new Infiniti Pro by Conair™ Spin Air Brush! Shaped like a typical round hair brush you’d use to do a blow-out, the Spin Air brush combines two tools in one by blowing air through the rotating brush to volumize and add shine as you dry. Simply brush through wet or damp hair for instant drying power.

The tangle-free anti-static bristles allow you to customize your volume with or without the spin function. The powerful ceramic heat distributes heat evenly for less damage, and an ionic generator releases 100x more ions than typical tourmaline ceramic motors. With 100x more ions, your hair will have maximum conditioning and shine! Choose from 3 heat settings and 2 speeds, and the multi-directional rotation (right/left) makes it easy for both right and left-handed users.

BUY IT
The Infiniti Pro by Conair Spin Air Brush is available nationwide at mass market and drug store retailers, as well as at www.conair-store.com for an average retail price of $59.99.

MY THOUGHTS
I received the Conair Spin Air Brush and was excited to try it.  Since we get a very early start, we usually shower at night.  I know, some of you may think that's crazy but, honestly, I don't know how I went to bed dirty all my life!  Showering at night is the way to go, in my opinion!  BUT let me tell you, going to bed with semi-wet hair...NOT a good idea.  The Conair Spin Air Brush is perfect for my bed-head dilemma!  I can dry it at night and shape it a little and it keeps well till morning.  If needed, I dry it a bit again to "fluff" it out some.  I love it!

WIN IT
One of my US readers will win their own Conair Spin Air Brush (ARV $60). Lucky You!

CLOSED The Turkish Towel Company Black Makeup Washcloths #Giveaway

Friday, March 25, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

The Turkish Towel Company encompasses a combined 50-plus years of towel know-how. This partnership marries American design, development, and marketing experience to the world-renowned skills and quality of Turkish towel manufacturing.  The result is unsurpassed style and quality in every towel that we produce.

The Turkish Towel Company products are all made in the legendary towel producing town of Denizli, Turkey, the world’s largest center for woven terry production.  Particular attention is paid to the stitching and finishing of all products.  All towels are double-stitched along the lengths to avoid fraying and for added stability.  All our products are woven in our modern production facility with Swiss made computer controlled weaving equipment.

MY THOUGHTS
I received some black makeup washcloths from Turkish Towel.  I have been using plain white washcloths for washing my face and they would often stain.  I'd quickly toss them to the rag pile and buy new ones.  Why didn't I ever think of using dark colored cloths?  I can honestly say I am a big fan of the Turkish Towel Makeup washcloths.  They are soft, durable and wash very well.

WIN IT
One of my US readers will win their own set of Turkish Towel Makeup Washcloths. Lucky You!

MANDATORY ENTRY
1) Tell me why you would like to win. Easy!

This giveaway is closed.  The winner was #232 jennymartin116 - Congratulations!

Gatorade Launches a Resource for Sports Moms

Friday, March 25, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

As youth athletics have become more widespread, competitive and time consuming, moms have elevated their game to support their kids in sports. Seventy percent of moms are raising kids in competitive sports, creating a group of “Sports Moms” nearly 13 million strong, according to the “Gatorade Sports Moms Study,” a poll of 900 moms of middle and high school students.

To help Sports Moms support their athletes, Gatorade has developed a new website, Gatorade.com/moms as a resource for information and inspiration.  Here Sports Moms can find articles and advice on sports nutrition, training tips, etc., as well as documentary webisodes featuring real Sports Moms, not actors, as they share their stories about raising kids in sports.

Some great study highlights include:
* Sports Moms are a big community 13 million strong. In fact, 7 of 10 moms are raising kids in competitive sports.

* Athletes have special nutritional needs to fuel sports performance and nutrition is where Sports Moms say they make the most impact on their young athletes’ success.

* Despite their commitment to nutrition, Sports Moms have concerns and uncertainties around their #1 role, including protein, hydration, pre- and post- game fuel.

* Sports Moms reported that there are additional nutritional challenges when raising an athlete including the fact that kids in sports eat an extra meal a week and two more meals away from home than kids who aren’t in sports.

Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post. I am just sharing this information because I thought it was useful.  Happy reading!

CLOSED My Baby Clothes Boutique #Giveaway

Tuesday, March 22, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

There is nothing more precious than a little baby girl or boy.  MyBabyClothesBoutique.com strives to bring you the most fashion forward and unique baby clothes on the web, all at a guaranteed lowest prices!  Their team searches to find the cutest, most comfortable, and highest quality clothes and accessories available.  The My Baby Clothes Boutique carries adorable clothes for babies and little kids, including a wide selection of cute tutusbaby clothes, baby hats, and baby headbands

MY THOUGHTS
Any of you with children know that kids grow so quickly!  I feel like I am constantly replacing Lily's entire wardrobe each and every season.  With all the shopping, I try to select a few key nice items mixed with a lot of "school" clothes that can withstand two 45 minute sessions on the playground.  Oh, and did I mention my sweet, lovely daughter's favorite playground passtime is digging in the dirt and making "cakes" out of mulch, mud and grass bits?  Talk about dirt!  Nonetheless, Lily loves to dress up and look pretty so we still want to find cute items at affordable prices that can withstand the mud piles cakes.

As I browsed through My Baby Clothes Boutique searching for an item to review I quickly found some great deals on top and bottom sets for my little princess/baker.

WIN IT
One US reader will win a $25 gift certificate to My Baby Clothes Boutique. Lucky you!

MANDATORY ENTRY
1) Tell me who you would be shopping for.  Easy!

This giveaway is closed.  The winner was #79 Linda Kish - Congratulations!

Please ensure your profile is public or leave me your email address in your comment. Please be honest in your entries as I do check entries and will delete any non-qualified comments! This giveaway will end at midnight on April 5th. I will use Random.org to choose the winner, email the winner and post the winner on my website. Giveaway is open to US addresses. Good luck to all!
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Get Ready for Spring with Lindsay Phillips {Review}

Tuesday, March 22, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

De-winterize your wardrobe with some must-haves from the Lindsay Phillips Spring 2011 Collection!

Ditch the boots and throw on a pair of the Liz Flats in Pink Canvas, Neutral Canvas, or Bright Silver ($64)! Simply switch out the snaps to instantly change your look.

Set your toes free with a pair of the Carol Snap Sandals in Black, Camel or Beet Pink ($49). As with the Liz Flats, all you have to do is change the snap to get a look that will match any outfit!

If you’re ready to sport a more seasonably festive bag, turn to the Sebring Tote in Octopus or Rope Print ($39). Even the snaps on these bags are interchangeable!

Continue the transformation from winter to spring by throwing on a Surfside Scarf in Blue Bird, Beet Pink or Vermillion Orange ($25).

MY THOUGHTS
I received a pair of cute flip flops from Lindsay Phillips to review with an interchangeable decorative clip.  First thought - so cute!!  Versatile!  Love.  Of course, being a mom my 3 year old daughter quickly came over to investigate.  I think she's going to be a shoe lover like me.  "Ooo, mommy, did you see that, you can change the shoes all around!  I wanna do it!  Put them on!"  So of course I had to oblige her.  Cute, fun and comfy.  Not to mention...fun, colorful bright colors.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary product in order to facilitate my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review (I really do love it!!) and I was not compensated for this review. My opinions are my own and yours may differ. Please refer to my disclosure or contact me if you have questions.

Friday, March 18, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

Are you as excited about spring cleaning as I am?!  I love the feeling of a clean, organized home.  Just ask my husband about what makes me cranky - dirt and disorder (don't forget auditors)!  With warmer weather in Atlanta, now is my time to switch over to lighter bedding and put the big, thick down comforter into storage.

CLOSED Melissa & Doug Wooden Workbench #Giveaway

Friday, March 18, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

If you are a parent, grandparent or educator, then you have surely heard of Melissa & Doug toys.  Did you know that Melissa & Doug are two real, live people that started the company in the garage of the home where Doug grew up back in the late 80's?  Since then, Melissa & Doug has grown steadily but their philosophy has remained the same over the years – to make each and every customer a happy and permanent member of the Melissa & Doug family, while offering products with tremendous value, quality and design.

Our first Melissa & Doug acquisition was an easel my good friend Lisa sent to Lily for Christmas. I fell in love with the brand back then.  Melissa & Doug carries a wide variety of fun, educational toys - from doll houses to grocery sets to puzzles and room decor.  Melissa & Doug sent us their Wooden Project Workbench to review.  Lily and I were excited to start putting it together the same day it arrived.

Lily enjoyed organizing the wooden pieces and sorting them by their respective letter.  The set up itself was very easy - and normally I would let my handy hubby do that job but we just couldn't wait to get started!

The Melissa & Doug Wooden Workbench comes with an instruction booklet of fun projects.  Since we have had the workbench for a few weeks, I can safely say we have built each and every project in the booklet.  Lily enjoys laying out the necessary pieces and working with us to put her toy together.  She also really enjoys organizing the pieces by type and color - that kid must get that from her mama!

BUY IT
You can shop for Melissa & Doug toys through their website directly or find them at retailers near you.  The wooden workbench toy retails for $99.99 and includes everything pictured here.  Right now they are offering free shipping on purchases over $75 with code FREESHIP.  You can also keep up with the company on their blog.

WIN IT
One of my US readers will win the same wonderful Melissa & Doug workbench that we had the opportunity to review. Lucky You!  Please note that you are not eligible to win this giveaway if you have won a Melissa & Doug Giveaway in the past 12 months.

MANDATORY ENTRY
1) Tell me something else that Melissa & Doug carries that interests you OR tell me who would be the lucky recipient of the pretend play workbench?

This giveaway is closed - the winner was #315 jdeemarie - congratulations!

Please ensure your profile is public or leave me your email address in your comment. Please be honest in your entries as I do check entries and will delete any non-qualified comments! This giveaway will end at midnight on April 2nd. I will use Random.org to choose the winner, email the winner and post the winner on my website. Giveaway is open to US addresses. Good luck to all!

#WordlessWednesday - Chocolate Treat

Tuesday, March 15, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

Sometimes you have to let a kid live a little.  Chocolate syrup-covered banana with sprinkles was a huge hit for Lily.  She managed to eat the whole thing.  Is this even my child?!  Just thinking about that combination actually makes me a little ill!  Yes, I have a salt-tooth!

CLOSED Inside the Minds of Car Dealers #Book #Giveaway

Tuesday, March 15, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

Before buying another car, let Ray Lopez, a former "swift talking, blood-sucking salesperson" and author of Inside the Minds of Car Dealers give you a look under the hood of dealerships to show you every trick that will be used against you!

Learn every last psychological ploy and manipulative scheme typical car dealerships use against you to squeeze every last dime out of your pocket --and then some-- all while you're being sold a car you may not even want! Discover in detail the 12 crucial dos and don'ts to car buying, like why you will always lose if you shop one dealer against another and why you should never mention your research on the Internet, or why you should accept that your trade-in is not worth what you think it is and why you should accept the fact that the dealership is a business entitled to make money.

Some books on this subject reveal a few of the tricks in a car dealers' trunk. This book gives them ALL to you!
1) Coupons & Cars – Why applying the budget savvy mindset you would towards saving money at the grocery store or shopping for clothes can be a win-win for you AND the used car guy.

2) Car Buying – Who Needs a Chaperone? Do you consider yourself a modern woman? Would you take your dad on a first date to scope out the guy before you enter a relationship with him? Would you take your boyfriend on a job interview to speak on your behalf? The answer is… no! Then, why, why, why would you think you need a chaperone just to secure a fair deal on a new or used car? This Q&A will detail why a good portion of today’s modern women revert to pre-feminist movement mentalities and feel unequipped to act on their own behalves to make a fair car deal. And, provide you with three powerful steps you can take to keep that same confidence and composure you have in your dating and professional life and apply it to the situation of a car dealership.

3) Online Dating and Car Buying – Beware Before You Test Drive! Why applying the same safety, fairness and research protocols before you go on the date or get on the used car lot can save you from heart- and wallet-ache.

4) Pregnant, Barefoot and Duped by the Car Salesman? It is 2011, but the “old boys’ club” stereotype unfortunately still runs rampant in too many car dealerships. How to stay calm and on-task with your next car purchase in an environment known to prey on women specifically with some of the oldest scams in the book (not Kelly’s Blue Book!). This Q&A will teach you how to psychologically evolve your quick, on your feet thought process past the predatory used car guy mentality, and allow you to take actions to secure the car deal that YOU want.

5) Eye Contact, Empathy and Entrusting the Car Deal to Your Own Empowered Self: Women by nature are more prone to seek out eye contact when communicating with others and are more empathetic to the situation of the people around them than men. Instead of suppressing what some may purport is a ‘weak female approach’ – the exact communication skills you innately have as a woman can work to your advantage when buying a car. If you get a salesman or woman who is forced to make consistent eye contact with you, and you show empathy towards their motivations for trying to work out a deal that’s in their favor, you can flip the situation around to where you have control as the customer, and the driver of that communication.

6) Hey Foxy Lady – How to outfox the car salesman and avoid letting his flattery flatter and distract you. Top five tips to staying focused, in control and on your way to a fair car buying experience.

CLOSED Scrubbing Bubbles Spring Cleaning Prize Pack #Giveaway

Tuesday, March 15, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

With spring around the corner, everyone is gearing up for spring cleaning and the warmer weather ahead. While some women will be turning to experts for cleaning advice (41 percent), many women will depend on their mother’s cleaning expertise. In fact, 81 percent of moms teach their daughters how to clean and 50 percent still ask mom for advice first!
According to the Scrubbing Bubbles® Dirty Work Index, a comprehensive national study, not only do women’s cleaning habits change as they experience major milestones in their lives, 42 percent said cleaning their home has become a bigger priority to them. Here are a few other top reasons why clean habits alter throughout life:

· Having children (81 percent of women ages 35-44)
· Buying a home (61 percent of women 25-34)
· Having children that are grown and moved out (52 percent of women 55-64)
· Getting engaged or married (36 percent of all women)
· Having a roommate (31 percent of women 18-24)

Visit the Dirty Work Index and hear from panel members Colleen Padilla (ClassyMommy.com), Donna Erickson (Donna’s Day on PBS) and Michelle Adams and Gia Russo (Daily.Thredup.com).

To entice you into some spring cleaning of your own, Scrubbing Bubbles has offered one of my readers a prize pack consisting of their Fresh Brush 2-IN-1 cleaner and the Toilet Cleaning Gel pictured here.

WIN IT
One of my US readers will win the Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush and Toilet Cleaning Gel to keep you on top of spring cleaning madness this season.  Lucky You!

MANDATORY ENTRY
1) Answer just one (or more if you want!) of the following questions - easy!  If you have children, do you influence your children to clean like you?  How have your cleaning habits changed over time?  What are your big spring cleaning projects?  I am working (still!) on de-cluttering and organizing our house.  I try to tackle a "5 minute task" each day to make the process less daunting.  My 3 year old occasionally helps.  She loves to wield a rag and wipe down dusty surfaces.  Aren't I lucky?

This giveaway is closed.  The winner was #168 Amy W. - Congratulations!
