I have enjoyed running and fitness out since the first time I ran the 1 mile dash in 7th grade and beat most of my other classmates (especially the boys – that was fun!). These days, I don’t hit the gym or get out for a run as often as I would like. Trying to juggle work, family, cooking, errands, groceries, blogging and lots of other responsibilities often puts exercise on the back burner. I manage to hit the gym on average about three times a week, but there are other ways that I squeeze in some physical activity. And let’s face it – most of us can use some more exercise in our lives.
Here are some quick tips for quick exercises you can add to your routine.
In the Car
* Butt crunches. Don’t worry if people give you strange looks, you’re working out!
At Your Desk or on the Couch
* More butt crunches!
* Leg lifts/extensions
* Have a set of stairs? Run up and down them a few times.
* No exercise equipment? You can do pushups, situps, jumping jacks and squats. Jump ropes are cheap and most anyone can use them.
* Free weights are inexpensive to purchase and can be used in a variety of quick exercises. Don’t want to buy weights? Use your milk jug or other heavy things around the house.
Need extra motivation? Sign up for a local race or fitness event or start a fitness challenge with a friend – for example, both of you agree to commit to exercising 3 times a week and checking in with each other. You’ll be more likely to do so knowing you’ve committed to it with someone else.
