Closet Flooring Re-Do Day One #HandyHubby

Sunday, January 30, 2011 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

My husband, he has an addiction.  He can't stop the random home improvement projects.  Occasionally, when he gets to a lull and claims bordome, I fuel his addiction but mentioning various items I would like "improved" in our already very comfortable home.

Recently I may have mentioned that the cheap, bunching and slightly stained carpet in my closet/bath could use an upgrade.  Our builder was a little odd creative and my big walk-in closet also houses my sink/vanity (new counters to come soon!!  Eek!).  One week later two pre-fab floor samples appear.  I commented briefly on the colors and then ignore them for the most part.  Suddenly I am told the flooring has been ordered.  Mental note - speak my opinion more clearly next time.  Adam ordered in my #2 choice but at this point I don't care because anything is better than cheap, bunching carpet.  And he got a good deal, so who can complain?  Not me!

The flooring arrives.  The husband gets to work.  He's in there now as I type, ripping out nails and carpet, occasionally vacuuming (double bonus!) and measuring.  I should probably help but I'm too busy snapping photos and writing this post.  Hey...he has his addictions and I have mine!  Adam claims he will get half done today while Lily is napping.  Somehow I highly doubt it but now duty calls and I must go assist.  I'll let you all know how it turns out!

Sounds like what we put in throughout our downstairs last year. I love it and it has held up great! :) My hubby is like Adam...gets bored easily so I am always having him do something around here. Now I am wanting new window treatments so we are going to have to measure and then go and see how much it will cost...kind of scared about that one.

That's quite an undertaking. We are going to redo our floors in a few years, but have to save up for cabinetry in the kitchen as well.

I guess yesterday was handy hubby day! My hubby fixed the kitchen sink (leak) and replaced the shower head in the bathroom. (We always seem to end up at Lowe's on our date night!) Tell your handy hubby that mine installed laminate flooring in our great room and it was easy, but took a long time - as a matter of fact, I'm still waiting for him to install the trim and it has been a couple years now!

Good luck!! Enjoy your new floor!

I read your post to my husband. He said "I guess you wouldn't mind me having an addiction like that!"

And I am sooo jealous of that huge closet and all the built ins! Love it!

OMG my husband needs to catch whatever brain fever has taken hold of your hubs! You are the luckiest girl in the world (not to mention the size of that closet - sister, if you won't let me move onto your deck at least let me camp in the walk-in???)! And the laminate is going to be gorgeous - I can't wait for the "after" pics!

Love the huge closet, but it is an odd placement for a sink. Either way, I'm sure it will turn out amazing. I'm excited to see the end results.
