CLOSED The Classic Treasury of Childhood Wonders Kids Book Giveaway

Sunday, December 26, 2010 Posted by Aleksandra Nearing

Award winning writer, educator and family issues advocate Susan Magsamen begins her book, The Classic Treasury of Childhood Wonders (National Geographic Children's Books), with this simple yet powerful thought: “If we take care of the moments, the years will take care of themselves.”

Catching your shadow. Daydreaming. Banging pots. Dress-Up. In today’s fast-paced and over-scheduled world of carpools, activity spreadsheets and Nintento DS, simple wonders of childhood -- and the special moments between parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and the little ones they love -- are often lost. In Childhood Wonders, Susan masterfully blends a vintage design and feel with a collection of activities, poems, nursery rhymes and art that underscores her philosophy on the best ways to encourage learn-through-play experiences and create special memories to last a lifetime.

Divided into five sections that illuminate a child’s world and interests -- Magic and Make-Believe; Outdoor Exploring; Crafts and Construction; Yummy for the Tummy; and Bedtime, Bathtime, and Dreamtime -- Childhood Wonders is more than a great gift book. It gives families a tool to reconnect with childhood whimsy and explore the importance of learning through play. During this season of off-the-hook consumerism and more, more, more, Childhood Wonders is a unique and lasting gift for kids, families, new parents and grandparents.  Check out Susan Magsamen's Family Stories website and the Instant Fun page for some rainy day game ideas and cool crafts!

    My moment was Christmas day when I called my son's home and he called my 2 year old granddaughter to the phone and the first thing she said was "love you Grandma". Miles do not separate love between hearts. I want her to know Grandma means unconditional love to her, always.

    With my kids spread out in age, I have boxes of books. My husband allows wants me to get rid of some but I use my oldest son's book as a reward box for my daughter to choose from (she reads like crazy!). Now with the youngest wanting more and more reading/looking we are going through those books again and all the ones I got for my daugher. I look forward to sharing some with grandkids waaaaaaaaay in the future. I rarely get rid of books but a few times we have gone through their boxes and book shelves and given to out local hospital.

    My little one had a nightmare and I went in to lie down with her. In the morning she said "thank you mommy".

    My stepson hugged me tight and apologized for something he did and said to me. It meant so much to me;

    I have a weakness for books, mostly used swapped or yard sale finds, we turned a room in our house into al ibrary. I do try and donate a bunch of books each year to the library, but there's still always so many.

    My special moment was watching our 2 year old granddaughter and her "Grampy" play while we babysat on New Years Eve.

    My most recent special moment was when my 4 year old realized he could spell pbskidsgo.org on the search bar. LOL! He is SOOOO proud so we are spending a lot of time playing pbs lately. ALL of us

    We had a special moment today-- my three year old ran over to help his baby sister when she was crying and gave her a kisss. This is a big deal b/c he's pretty jealous over the time and attention that I have been giving to the baby
