I organized a blueberry picking playdate this weekend with some friends and the kids had a blast. The berries were perfectly sweet and delicious! It was the last weekend of the blueberry picking season so we were glad we went when we did! Our take – 5 pounds of delicious, fresh blueberries. It was pretty hot and humid so we were VERY ready to go after about 2 hours. The kids had fun picking berries and playing on the nearby playground. Look at those hams working it for the camera below – they came up with that pose all on their own!
Berry Patch Farms gave us a recipe sheet and Lily and I made a blueberry pie. I would tweak the recipe next time and use half the sugar and twice the flour. It turned out really good, though!
4-5 cups of blueberries (fresh, or thawed if from frozen)
1/2 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of flour
pastry dough for 10″ pie crust (I used a store-bought frozen one)
2 tablespoons lemon juice (I skipped since I didn’t have any on hand)
4 tablespoons butter
Combine sugar and flour in a bowl, and toss in berries. Pour into unbaked pie shell. Dot with butter, sprinkle lemon juice. Bake in preheated oven at 425 for 50 to 60 minutes. Cool and enjoy!
